Section 8 Housing is a class of housing defined, approved, and managed by the Federal Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). If you qualify for Section 8 Housing based on income and other eligibility factors, you will be issued a voucher (tied to the housing unit or apartment you wish to secure) that caps your rent payment at 30% of your income, with the remainder of your rent being subsidized by the Federal Government.

All applicants can apply to Pathstone (Section 8) in Middletown. Affordable (or Section 42) Housing is a class of housing or apartment units offered by developers or landlords at a reduced rate to those with demonstrated financial need. You will need to establish your eligibility based on income and other financial data. Your application is submitted to and processed by the landlord or developer of the Section 42 housing complex. The rental rate for Section 42 housing is fixed and capped by the County where the housing is located; it also does not fluctuate based on your income.

“Everything: The apartments, staff, Board Members, counsel, administrators, advocates, maintenance staff… I think Middletown Housing Authority is the very best. I love the way they work overtime and every day, week, month, and year. They are the best. And I have been here for over 30 some years. Thank you for all the years I have been a tenant and no problems yet!”

“I’ve been living here for years. It’s affordable. They keep the grounds nice and clean. They do house inspections to make sure people keep their houses clean. Plus I appreciate stuff like the rent being set based on low-income, everything is included, and the heat is good in the winter.”
